Startups already on the market
Eneco, with more than two million customers, is entering a market for Essent and Vattenfall where start-ups have been active for some time with ‘day-ahead prices’. Eneco’s variable and permanent contracts will also continue to exist alongside the dynamic contract.
Selina Thurer, head of customer organization at the Rotterdam energy company, explains the choice of the new contract to the newspaper:
“Under the influence of the energy crisis, we saw that many customers needed security. But some want to move with that price and take more risk.” Research showed that more than 3 percent of customers want a dynamic contract.
During the energy crisis, it was no longer possible to conclude a permanent energy contract, but annual and three-year contracts are now available again.
Benefits and Risks
With the dynamic price, which can be viewed a day in advance, households can plan ahead exactly when they can use electricity and gas the cheapest.
An advantage of this is that a battery car can be charged automatically at the most advantageous time via the app. But the Consumers’ Association previously warned that you should be well prepared for price fluctuations. So the price can suddenly rise as well.
