On Thursday morning, President Maiken Sætran Lium announced that Sumaya Jirde Ali had resigned from her job as editor-in-chief of Fett magazine, according to Journalists magazine. Ali has held the position since May 2021.
– These will be big shoes to fill, since Sumaya has done a good job here. But Fett has had good editors in the past, so he should be fine, Lium tells Journalisten.
Social debater and author Sumaya Jirde Ali did not answer Dagbladet’s questions. Dagbladet was in contact with Lium when the senior editor position at Fett was advertised. At the time it stated the following:
– It is true that the position of editor-in-chief at Fett is brilliant. As an employer of Sumaya Jirde Ali, I don’t wish to comment beyond that.
The Antonsen case
Ali recently sued comedian Atle Antonsen for hate speech and reckless behavior after an incident at Bar Boca nightclub in Grünerløkka in Oslo on 23 October. Among other things, Antonsen is said to have told Ali “you’re too dark/dark-skinned to be here”.
The case was later dismissed on the state of the evidence by the state attorney, who held that it could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Antonsen had committed a felony.
– He’s misbehaved terribly
In November, Antonsen’s attorney, Marianne Klausen, told NTB that her client has been clear there was never any issue of deliberate hate speech in this case.
– It still doesn’t change the fact that he behaved terribly this evening. Atle understands that the case has been and still is a great burden for those involved, regardless of how the state’s attorney has evaluated the case, Klausen said.
