Chihuahua, Chih.- The anti-Covid vaccine that was applied in the first campaigns and reinforcements would be about to lose the immunity it generated, since ideally these should be renewed every six months. Although the last day for latecomers took place in June of this year in Chihuahua, vaccination is expected to resume in January and even with the bivalent doses that have been applied in the United States, since the first doses would no longer be as effective against the ‘Ómicron variants, considered the Chihuahua College of Physicians, through its vice president, Dr. Jesús Lozano, who has called on the population to maintain prevention on these dates.
“Without a doubt in vaccines the average immunity is six months, to have adequate efficacy and then the percentage of defense decreases. One of the most serious problems we have right now is that Omicron has a new variant, the one known as Hell Dog, Cancerbero and other names that have been given to it, it is preventable only with the new vaccines, the ones that have been applied in the United States. So we have no protection against this variant,” explained the doctor.
These are the bivalent boosts that are already being applied in the neighboring country to the north, but that it has not yet been announced in Mexico that they will be applied. Given this scenario in which Comedechi pointed out that it is very likely that the variant is already in Chihuahua, the doctor stressed that the only prevention in this regard will be the residual defense of the application of the vaccine and the reinforcements that the person still has. however, he stressed that vulnerable populations such as the elderly may be hardest hit.
He indicated that for this it is essential that personal prevention is also applied with the use of masks, gels and healthy distancing, measures that are already known to the population and which need to be resumed especially in this winter season.
“It is more contagious, but less deadly. But it has a wide range of infections, and that’s where the problems come from because if there’s a serious infection, we’re going to have bigger problems in terms of how to fix it. And that’s what we’re asking people to take care of themselves right now, because if they don’t we’ll have a saturation of hospitals. What is happening right now is that there are many infected patients who do not have severe symptoms, but are at risk of having them and presenting immunocompromise ”, she highlighted.
The recommendation of the College is to return to preventive measures, considering that prevention is a better option than cure, so that in January a problem like the one experienced in this period in previous years.
