TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Chairman of the NasDem Party, Surya Paloh admitted that he offered his name Anies Baswedan – Puan Maharani to President Jokowi. This is one of the efforts to make the 2024 election run peacefully without the tadpole-kadrun polarization that occurred in the previous presidential election.
“The atmosphere of the election itself if we start with a chaotic situation, fight between us, destroy, blaspheme, keep on talking you’re a geek, you’re a tadpole, you’re an idiot, you’re a moron, you’re not nationalist, you’re going to make radicalism, who is this?” said Surya at NasDem Tower, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Thursday, June 23, 2022.
Surya explained that the warring parties because of the election were the children of the nation. They become divided because of different choices and different understandings.
Therefore, to the President Jokowi, Surya offered a number of compositions for the names of the presidential and vice presidential candidates who came from two different camps. The compositions are Anies-Puan, Ganjar-Anies, to Anies-Prabowo.
“I, I admit that, yes (offering the names of the presidential and vice presidential candidates to Jokowi),” said Surya.
Surya said that the proposal for the name of the presidential and vice presidential candidate pair to Jokowi was purely because of his desire to face a peaceful election. He admitted that there was no political motive behind the offer of the name.
“I have no subjectivity, what for? I’m not a candidate. You know that,” said Surya.
So far, the NasDem Party is the only party that has announced its presidential candidate. They include Anies Baswedan, Andika Perkasa, and Ganjar Pranowo. These three names emerged after NasDem held a National Working Meeting some time ago.
After having the name of the presidential candidate to be carried, NasDem also held a meeting with several other parties. For example with the Prosperous Justice Party or PKS, Gerindra, and most recently with the Democratic Party.
However, until now the party NasDem has not declared a coalition with any party. Surya said his party did not want to be in a hurry and wanted to have a close relationship with other parties first.
