Let’s face it: we can’t do without YouTube. Whether you want to see the trailer of the latest movie, or just a cute cat movie: the platform is the right place. Still, there is one major annoyance, but it is now addressed by a new Safari extension for your Mac.
A new feature for YouTube has been released since December of 2020, about which opinions are quite divided. I am of course talking about YouTube shorts, the TikTok clone with which the platform wants to compete with the Chinese medium.
An end to your YouTube frustration on your Mac
There will of course be quite a user group for it, but I’m not really waiting for the Shorts myself. Of course you mainly come to YouTube for the somewhat longer videos. For a long time, the short videos could not be avoided on the platform, but that is now coming to an end.
This function that the Shorts avoids was not made by YouTube itself, but by an external developer. He has built a special extension for Safari so you don’t have to see it anymore. This man deserves a ribbon!
This is how you use it on Safari
The creator behind this extension for Safari on Mac is Aaron Pearce. He has given the creature an appropriate name: Eat the Shorts. It is easy to install, but unfortunately it is not free. You pay a one-time $ 1.99 for it, but then you’re really rid of it. A small price to pay for fixing a major YouTube annoyance.
Eat the Shorts is now available on the macOS App Store. Block YouTube Shorts in Safari with a simple install for just $1.99. https://t.co/zyyJRtKRYA #youtubeshorts #YouTube pic.twitter.com/KDiHmmDT8d

There is one other (minor drawback). Eat the Shorts for YouTube is made specifically for the Mac version of Safari. Apple has somewhat stricter rules when it comes to apps for iOS and iPadOS. It’s not impossible to use this version for your phone or iPad, but it might not work properly.
Like me, do you find YouTube Shorts very annoying? Then download that extension for Safari for the Mac now. This can be found here!
No more ads on YouTube thanks to these iPhone apps
