End of years of embarrassment on roads. On the D3 near Tábor, you can drive in four lanes at 130 km/h – Zdopravy.cz

70 kilometers of the D3 main road are currently in operation, another 44 kilometers from Budějovice to the Austrian border are under construction.

The D3 motorway got rid of the old shame in the form of a gap near Tábor this evening. The gap is about 450-meters long in the lane towards České Budějovice, which forced all traffic into one lane for years and made it difficult to turn to Thabor, to be closed.

“On the basis of permission for the early use of the structure, from 19:00 today the site can be moved through in four full lanes at a speed of 130 kilometers per hour,” said Jan Rýdl, spokesperson for the Roads and Roads Directorate (ŘSD). Construction began on June 21.

The gap in the highway lasted more than ten years, ie since the opening of this section of road. The cause was disputes with the Bratránk family, who owned a motorcycle shop and service station and an LPG gas station in the area. And she asked to leave the highway. This was rejected by the ŘSD.

The matter was dealt with by the courts, including the High Administrative Court (NSC) and the Constitutional Court, for several years. It was the NSS who decided that the only way was elimination; this happened earlier this year. After that, a building permit was awaited, which was given by the ŘSD received at the end of May.

According to the ŘSD, the dispute was already started in the late 1990s, when the construction authority in Tábor allowed the construction of the motorcycle center as permanent, although the route was not – off the highway (then I/3 road) but temporary. The owners of the motorcycle center, the Bratránková brothers, tried to preserve the exit from the highway. They have been saying that the extraction is illegal.

Meanwhile, the gas station that stood next to it disappeared as a temporary structure before the freeway was built.

There are currently 70 kilometers of D3 highway operating from the borders of the Central and South Bohemian Regions to the northern edge of České Budějovice. Another 44 kilometers are being built from Budějovice to the Austrian border. Of these, 28 new kilometers are to be opened to drivers this December. South Bohemia is to be completed in 2026, and the entire Prague – Linz highway in 2031.
