Cuba closes the 2022-2023 school year, a stage with many challenges and complexities, but with the satisfaction of a favorable trend in the main indicators and in most of the qualitative evaluations.
This is how the doctor of science Naima Ariatne Trujillo Barreto, Minister of Education, told the press at the provincial act for the closing of the current school period, held at the Carlos Ulloa urban secondary school, in the main municipality of Pinar del Río.
The head of the branch expressed the need to maintain these results and increase those in which the expected was not achieved, while highlighting, even in complex situations, the unconditional and passionate response of teachers and professors, essential to have a successful academic year 2023-2024.
He reported that the Preparation Seminar for the next course was held in the country, as well as at the provincial and municipal levels, and that they will continue to the institutions.
“In addition, the Third Improvement will have the possibility of introducing not only the transformations, but also more quickly the study and impact of what happens in the subject, and we will be prepared so that complex circumstances become a challenge and overcome them,” said the minister.
He said that they are in the first phase of preparation for the next course, which are the seminars, and that the entire methodological structure of the organization is actually being deployed in the territories, and that at the end of August they will make an adjustment tour of the final details, infrastructure and coverage.
He declared that the situation with teaching coverage is not homogeneous, some territories have a more advantageous situation, for example Pinar del Río, and other eastern provinces, because they have achieved more favorable conditions with the suitability.
In addition, he specified that in others such as Sancti Spíritus, Matanzas and Havana, they apply strategies that allow them to compensate for the situation and manage to apply different variants in each institution.
In his speech, Doctor of Science Evelio Herrera Padrón, Director General of Education, recalled that Pinar del Río began the school year with the passage of Hurricane Ian through the territory, which affected 477 institutions, to which was added the complex situation that causes the imperialist blockade in aspects such as transportation, food and energy, which in one way or another affect the educational process.
However, the province managed to maintain its teaching coverage, with high stability rates, which allowed students to receive the planned content.
Herrera Padrón said that the continuity of studies of one hundred percent of the sixth, ninth and twelfth grade students was guaranteed; In addition, the capacities of children’s circles grew and eight children’s houses were opened.
He referred to the consolidation of the pre-university level, the good results in national competitions and international competitions, as well as the fact that more than 500 twelfth grade students have direct careers, especially pedagogical ones, which will guarantee the stability of future cloisters.
On the occasion, the educator Alexander Franco Lago, with a rich educational teaching career in the training of new generations, was awarded the José Tey medal, proposed by the minister to the Council of State and approved by Presidential Decree.
Two outstanding workers, Yamisely Lagoa Aguiar and Aidelin Camejo Gómez , received the Distinction for Cuban Education, in addition another group of valuable teachers were presented with diplomas as Best Teacher and Exemplary Educator.
The José Martí Pioneers Organization recognized the Manuel Ascunce Domenech Seminary Boarding School and the Combate de Bacunagua Basic Secondary School for the results of their work with the organization in the 2023/2024 school year, and the Pinar del Río municipal education office handed over to the Carlos Ulloa Basic High School a recognition for the results in an integral way.
Evelio Herrera Padrón, Director General of Education, gave an incentive to Bárbara Caridad García Díaz, General Assistant of the IPVCE Federico Engels, for being an outstanding worker.
