End of Transitional PSBB, Jakarta Crowded Vehicles Again

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Traffic Director Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Sambodo Purnomo Yogo said the volume of vehicles in Jakarta was approaching a normal situation towards the end of the Large-Scale Social Limitation (PSBB) Phase I transition on Thursday (2/7) tomorrow.

According to him, during the Transitional PSBB the volume of vehicles in the capital city had increased compared to the previous PSBB period.

“The volume of vehicles in which the Transitional PSBB period is indeed nearing normal,” said Sambodo at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police on Wednesday (1/7).

Sambodo said that the increase in vehicle volume was monitored at the Cililitan Toll Gate in the direction of Bogor. Then, the Halim Toll Gate from Bekasi and Tomang also showed the same thing.

“It shows that the numbers are almost normal, even before the pandemic, which is February,” he said.

Sambodo explained, the density of the vehicle was monitored in the morning and evening. Nevertheless the government policy regarding the distribution of working hours is quite helpful in breaking down the density of the vehicle.

On the other hand, said Sambodo, the Traffic Directorate of Metro Police and the DKI Jakarta Transportation Office are still continuing to study the matter of the plan to re-apply even odd rules.

He mentioned one of the things that was still being studied, namely the matter of applying distance in public transportation. Because, if even odd is enforced then it causes the number of public transport passengers will increase.

“So, I’m afraid later physical distancing 50 percent on public transportation is not maintained. So until now we are still examining whether even odd will be applied or not, now it is still not, “said Sambodo.

Earlier, Sambodo said it had deployed 1,728 personnel to manage traffic in anticipation of traffic jams in the middle of the Tansisi PSBB.

Thousands of personnel stationed at hundreds of points. They are divided into two hours operating traffic management. For the morning, 06.00-14.00 WIB, then in the afternoon 14.00-22.00 WIB.

“We are placing the 1,728 personnel in 410 congestion-prone points,” Sambodo said on Monday (6/15).

In addition, the Traffic Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police also prepared traffic engineering, such as contra flow and others to unravel vehicle volume density.
