NEW YORK – The Ukrainian conflict can be resolved through diplomatic or military means, but only after Moscow achieves its goals.

Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vassily Nebenzia said this on Friday (13/1/2023).

Addressing a briefing at the UN Security Council, the envoy commented on possible avenues for ending the hostilities between the two sides.

“Opportunities to resolve the conflict will only present themselves once Ukraine ceases to be a threat to Russia and discriminates against Russian-speaking Ukrainians,” he stressed.

Nebenzia noted, “If this outcome can be achieved through negotiations, we are ready for this scenario. If not, then our task will be accomplished by military means.”

The diplomat reiterated that Russia is fighting not against the Ukrainian people, but against the “nationalist criminal regime that came to power in 2014” after the coup in Kiev.

According to him, the new Ukrainian leadership has tried to rid the country of “everything connected with Russia, and glorifying Nazi accomplices.”

Nebenzia stated, “Things could have ended differently for Ukraine,” if Kiev had upheld the now-defunct Minsk Agreements signed in 2014 and 2015 in an effort to pave the way for peace by giving the People’s Republics of Donetsk and Luhansk special status within the Ukrainian state. .

However, neither Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky nor his predecessors, nor France and Germany, who took part in the Minsk Agreement negotiations, have ever intended to fulfill the plan, according to Nebenzia.
