PHILADELPHIA — It won’t be a perfect season for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Methodical and opportunistic, the Washington Commanders won 32-21 on Monday, inflicting their first loss in nine games on the Eagles.
Philadelphia was 8-0 for the first time in franchise history.
The only clean season in NFL history was in 1972 when the Miami Dolphins went 17-0.
The Patriots closed in 2007 by losing the Super Bowl after an 18 game winning streak.
The Eagles went down to the half for the first time this season.
Late in the fourth quarter, with the Commanders up 26-21, Jalen Hurts linked with Quez Watkins for 51 yards, but Watkins then lost the ball.
It was the third turnover of the game for the Eagles, who had conceded just three in their first eight games.
The other team members are AJ Brown and Dallas Goedert.
Taylor Heinicke completed 17 of 29 passes for 229 yards.
Terry McLaurin had 128 receiving yards, including a 41-yard catch that led to one of four field goals by Joey Slye.
Hurts had 174 passing yards.
On the Washington side, Montrealer Benjamin St-Juste had six solo tackles.
The Commanders (5-5) have lost just once in their last five games.
The club will play again on Sunday in Houston.
The Eagles will then be in action in Indianapolis.
