End of the labor dispute at Olymel in Vallée-Jonction

The labor dispute at the Olymel plant in Vallée-Jonction finally ended yesterday after 5 months. The workers’ union voted 78% yesterday in favor of the tentative agreement. This deal was finally accepted after a negotiation blitz that ended on Sunday.

Last week Olymel’s management issued an ultimatum to union members to find an agreement before Sunday, otherwise the evening shift, or 500 jobs, would be abolished. Since the start of the labor dispute, the number of waiting pigs has continued to increase. It has returned to more than 180,000 pigs waiting on farms in Quebec.
