As summer slowly draws to a close, a quiet melancholy often creeps in. Why is that? No other time of the year is so charged with expectations. Here are some ideas for a gentle transition into autumn.
The light changes, the mornings become cooler, and the sun sets a little earlier each day. Although it is still officially summer, a touch of melancholy settles over the mood. The approaching end of a promising time is noticeable: September 1st marks the beginning of meteorological autumn.
Summer: The season of missed opportunities
Summer is that time of year that often seems to have untapped potential. It starts with great hopes and lots of plans – weekends by the sea, picnics in the park, festivals, travel, warm nights, new loves, shooting stars, light clothing, reading in a deck chair. But three months are rarely enough to fulfill all of these dreams.
At the end of the summer, it becomes clear that many of those “finally again” moments were only partially true – especially in a year in which the weather did not always play along. The days when it rained or everyday life simply got in the way let the summer slip through your fingers like fine sand. And suddenly it is too late to catch up on everything you had planned. This can leave a feeling of sadness.
