German carmaker Volkswagen has announced that cars with a manual transmission will disappear from its offer in the future. Other carmakers have taken a similar step.
Some drivers require a manual transmission when buying a car, while others require an automatic transmission. However, some car companies will not have it in a few years to choose from as their offer narrows down to one type. For example, the German carmaker Volkswagen has decided to take a radical step. In the future, it plans to manufacture and install only automatic transmissions in its vehicles.
The end of manual transmission is coming soon
According to the available information, this change should take place earlier than originally thought. Volkswagen wants to cancel the offer of manual transmissions as early as 2023. This step is over first touches the third generation of the Tiguan model, which will only be available with an automatic transmission. It will thus become the first vehicle from the Volkswagen collection that will not be in the manual.

This radical step by the German carmaker will affect the whole world and manual transmissions are expected to disappear by 2030 for Volkswagen models completely. With this decision, the carmaker will also significantly save on the costs associated with the development of manual transmissions, and can subsequently invest in the development of electric cars, for example.
The abolition of manual transmissions will contribute to electromobility
The carmaker Volkswagen plans to offer electric cars in Europe from 2030, which goes hand in hand with the abolition of the production of manual transmissions. In addition, according to current surveys, fewer and fewer cars have manual transmissions. From the total number of 5,838 models from all German manufacturers only 1,870 of them boast a standard manual transmission and a separate clutch pedal. 218 of them have a five-speed transmission and up to 1,652 a six-speed transmission.

A similar step as Volkswagen was taken earlier by his compatriot Mercedes, who recently announced that in the future there will be no possibility of a manual transmission for his models.
