In recent video game development calendars, it’s common to see work endings and game release dates coming very close. Sometimes even less than three weeks apart, during which time the game will be sent in preparation for a physical release (if ever). As such, there is also a preference for “day one patches”, fixing bugs that are discovered or fixed in the intervening weeks. However, some developments are done so early that it’s surprising, like Final Fantasy XVI.
The crown jewel of Square Enix’s 2023 release has announced that it is wrapping up development, nearly three months before its June 22 release date.
The studio is expected to continue hunting for bugs and fixing bugs in the weeks leading up to launch, so we can expect a highly optimized version of Final Fantasy XVI on PS5 that will be exclusive for at least six months, if not longer.
Are you looking forward to Final Fantasy XVI?
