Along with Ole Einar Björndalen, Johannes Thingnes Bö is one of the most successful biathletes ever. The Norwegian speculates on Instagram about the possible end of his career.
Johannes Thingnes Bö is the figurehead in the sport of biathlon. With 20 gold medals at world championships, he is joint record winner with Ole Einar Björndalen. Bö was also unbeatable in the last World Cup season and secured the overall victory in a dominant manner.

The 31-year-old has now indicated for the first time on Instagram that he will probably no longer be at the start at the 2029 home World Cup in Oslo at Holmenkollen.
Bö appeals to the next generation
“I am excited to see whether the new biathlon generation can defend our title in five years. I’m sure it will be a big goal for her to be one of the four runners in the relay,” wrote the biathlon dominator of recent years in a picture from 2016. At that time, Bö won together with his brother Tarjei with Ole Einar Björndalen and Emil Hegle Svendsen the gold medal in the relay.

Back then, too, the World Cup took place in his home country of Norway, which is why the victory and the memories of it were particularly memorable.

Bö will certainly work towards one goal until the end of his career – and that is another title at a world championship! Because then the 31-year-old would be the sole record holder and would push his compatriot Ole Einar Björndalen off the top spot.
Tarjei Bö is still running
In April, Bö’s older brother Tarjei had already spoken out about a possible end to his career. The 35-year-old announced at the time that he wanted to compete for at least one more season.
“There are always arguments for and against, so you can never speak of 100 percent,” explained the 35-year-old in the newspaper The Walk of the World and added: “When you are then faced with the decision, it is clear that your gut decides.”
For Bö, his sporting development was a crucial factor when considering whether to quit or not. “It’s just cool to see that I can still get better at 35 years old. “That gave me a lot of motivation,” said the Norwegian, explaining his decision.

Maybe the brother pair will go one better next season and celebrate another World Cup title. The biathlon stars have their next opportunity at the upcoming World Championships in 2025 in the Swiss ski resort of Lenzerheide.
