Osilo A nightmare that lasted 316 days ends. Finally the people of Osile can use the water that flows from their taps without the anxiety that has accompanied them for long months, starting from August 2023. And the water in the hamlet of San Lorenzo has also become drinkable again, so once again all three sampling centers – Osilo, Santa Vittoria, San Lorenzo – are aligned on drinking water, which has not happened since May 13th.
The hope, of course, is that this state of grace can last for a long time, and that it does not have to be abruptly interrupted as has unfortunately often happened in the recent past. Abbanoa is confident that it has found the right solution, with the installation of a new disinfection point at the Sant’Antonio tank, which is in addition to the new dosing pump installed in November last year in the tank adjacent to Castello Malaspina.
«Finally, after a long time – they say from the water management company – our data are aligned with those of the Sian (Food Hygiene and Nutrition Service) of the ASL of Sassari, so drinking water has returned to flow from the Osilo taps . It will be a matter – they add – of maintaining the right balance in disinfection, because the ever-present risk is that an excess of it leads to the appearance of trihalomethanes, the other parameter that makes water undrinkable”.
This occurred on more than one occasion, both in Osilo and in the hamlets, when disinfection was “forced”, given that trihalomethanes are generated during water purification, through the reaction of chlorine (or chlorine dioxide /hypochlorite) with the natural organic substances (Nom) present in the liquid. One of the basic problems of Osilo’s water supply remains unresolved and perhaps unsolvable, the fact that the village on the Tuffudesu is located in the final part of the Bidighinzu pipeline, therefore, since the longer the aqueduct, the less effective it is in The final part is disinfection, which represents an additional problem for Osilo. «We also tried to remedy this – they say from Abbanoa – with the use of monochloramine, which has a greater staying power, but without completely solving the problem».
Satisfaction also from the mayor Giovanni Ligiosreached by phone just as he was traveling to Cagliari, for an appointment with the director of Abbanoa. «We will continue to ask for a definitive solution to the problem – says the mayor – with the completion of the internal supply network, half renewed and half not, the definitive arrangement of the tanks of Sant’Antonio and above all of the Castle, any other intervention that allows the Osilians to be able to regularly use drinking water”. «Because more than three hundred days of bans in just over a year – adds Giovanni Ligios – are neither admissible nor acceptable. For this reason, in parallel with the discussions with the managers of Abbanoa we will also proceed with the legal proceedings, starting with the request for a reduction in the costs in the bill for the entire period in which the water was non-drinkable”.
