- HMD Global, which owns the Nokia brand, announced an interesting news
- Already this month, it will introduce its first own smartphone
- It means that Nokia phones will probably not continue
Arrange a funeral, squeeze a teardrop. The Finnish phone brand Nokia breathed its last this year. The owner of the rights to this brand, the Finnish group HMD Global, has decided to take a major step – it will start producing phones under its own HMD brand.
Nokia phones are discontinued
Already in October of last year HMD announced, that it wants to develop its own line of 5G phones in Europe. However, at the time, most of the public thought that HMD and Nokia mobiles would be released in duality; no one thought that the Finns would de facto cut off the life of such a legendary brand as Nokia.

Goodbye Nokia logo? HMD is considering production under its own brand
But that is very likely to happen. HMD is currently profiled as “the manufacturer of Nokia phones” and is responsible for the brand. If HMD decides to stop making Nokia phones, that’s entirely up to them.
In a new video on HMD’s channel, the company unveiled a refreshed logo and design identity, as well as the fact that the first smartphone with the HMD logo will be unveiled in Barcelona at MWC at the end of February.
The new HMD design and the first phone
“You’ve probably noticed a few changes. We have a new look, but some things remain the same. We make phones that are durable, fun, secure, fast and affordable. Watch this space. We will bring more news soon.” states producer on his YouTube channel.
It can thus be expected that HMD Global will no longer produce any phones under the Nokia brand. Nokia’s only chance for salvation would be a buyout by another giant. But we had that here in the past, and how it turned out. Of course, Nokia Corporation, the leader in the telecommunications and 5G market, remains in business. However, she is not behind the development of mobile phones.
Even the durable CAT phones are coming to an end
The beginning of 2024 became fateful not only for Nokia brand mobile phones, but also for the manufacturer of durable CAT phones. Bullit Group, which was in charge of CAT’s smartphone and satellite division, was responsible for this brand. She finished practically overnight.
