End of a great career. The former European champion in the decathlon says goodbye – Sport.cz

Helcelet achieved a lifetime achievement in 2016 when he won the silver medal at the European Championships in Amsterdam. A year later, he was third in the heptathlon at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade. In addition, he collected several fourth and fifth places at major events.

At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro 2016 he took 12th place, three years ago in Tokyo he was in sixteenth place. He did not qualify for this year’s games in Paris. Illness prevented him from starting at June’s European Championship in Rome at the last minute.

With a performance of 8335 points from the meeting in Götzis in 2017, Helcelet is fifth in the historical records of the Czechs. He is fourth in the indoor heptathlon (6188). In May this year, he won the second national decathlon. He has five domestic heptathlon titles from the hall.

Due to the reconstruction of the athletic track, the 24th annual Daňka Memorial will not be held until September instead of the traditional May date. Olympic bronze medalist Nikola Ogrodníková from Paris is competing in the vault.
