The Encyclopedia de La Línea collects in volume III the biographies of 329 linenses characters or those closely linked to the city. Almost all levels and professionals are represented. It contains stories of writers, painters, teachers, priests, doctors, singers, singers, dancers, composers, musicians and bullfighters, as well as psychologists, announcers, athletes and actors.

José María Viñas Coca (Dancer)

Bailaor born in La Línea on November 10, 1992. He started dancing at the age of 11 at the Bailaor Linense school David Morales. He continued to train with dancers of the first rank such as La Moneta, Nani Paños, Antonio el Pipa, Ramón Martínez and Sara Vázquez, among others. In addition, he studies at the Conservatory Malaga Dance Professional.

In 2008, at the age of 15, he won the second prize of the Estepona National Singing and Dancing Contest (Málaga), in the modality of Cantaor and Bailaor. In 2009, already with 16 years old, he won the first prize of this same contest.

A year later, in 2010, he won the award for Best Young Artist in the Ciudad de Ubrique national flamenco art contest. The media reported the following regarding the contest of the city of Ubrique: “In the modality of dance the young linense José María Viñas delighted all attendees with martinetes, proving that he is a great and accomplished artist, as demonstrated again at the end of the fiesta por bulerías. We wish this young man a great future in dance ”.

In 2010 he also participated in the Young promises of Flamenco Festival, on Montellano (Seville). He has danced in countries like Saudi Arabia or Bosnia.

Vicente Viñolo (Veteran athlete)

Vicente Viñolo, from La Linea who has lived in the capital of Cádiz for more than four decades. Throughout his life he has shown that physical exercise and age can be perfectly compatible with the passage of time. “Obviously, now I don’t have the speed of yesteryear, but the simple fact of being able to run gives me tremendous strength,” says this tireless and exemplary athlete. His latest feat doesn’t go very far back in time.

Between July 3 and 4, 2010, Vicente Viñolo achieved two runner-ups for Spain in the Tenerife region of Arona. A silver medal in 1,500 meters and another in 5,000 meters showed that this veteran runner is still in top shape. As if that were not enough, in the 800 meter category he was a small step from the podium. Magnificent results in 24 hours of competition. Almost nothing.

“It has been a unforgetable experience. Everything has been perfect and it is something that I will not forget in my life “, says Viñolo, who does not miss the occasion and adds:” At the end of the day, it has been a reward for my daily effort. I usually train regularly and the results have been great ”.

This athlete leaves no room for improvisation in his daily training. “In summer I usually run from eight in the morning, since then it is too hot and you have to take the appropriate precautions. I practice series of 100 meters, 400 meters and continuous running, a fact that gives me the opportunity to attend many events ”, he adds.

He has been in the ranks of the Olympus Athletics Club, but previously it had already been part of the City of the Sea. Undoubtedly, a notorious background for an athlete who points out: “Athletics does not have the desired support in the capital of Cádiz. Cities like Chiclana, El Puerto or San Fernando know how to get much more out of this sport ”.

Likewise, Viñolo asserts that there are quite a few athletes of advanced age who are noticed throughout the Spanish geography. “Fortunately, in Spain there are many people of a certain age who they keep practicing sports. That is excellent news ”, argues the man from La Línea de la Concepción, who feels fortunate that he has not suffered any serious injuries in all this time.

Meanwhile, the parts of the province are still waiting for a Vicente Viñolo, who cannot imagine his life without the encouragement of sport. “My children support me because they know that it is my passion. However, my wife tries to stop my feet, since she says that I have an age when I don’t have to take things too seriously ”, assesses the member of Olympus.

José Zapata, El Pichuchín (Popular character)

Popular character of La Línea All fans of the flamenco They remember him singing in the streets and at the doors of bars.

His fandangos were very personal and he also did other types of cantes such as “la mula y el calé”, which introduced bulerías, bulerías por soleá and fandangos. He gave everyone a feeling that only cool people like him could do. He sang squatting with his hand on his face and from his throat instead of cantes came laments, deep complaints, products of his sick mind. A pity that their cantes were not recorded.

Perhaps he is the person who has thrown the most gañafones in our souls for his cantes and his way of living.
