Iveta Zalpētere, the temporary executive director of the city of Riga, urges to carry out a general cleaning of the municipal farm, namely, to liquidate the three suburban executive directorates and transfer their functions to a new administration, reports TV3 Ziņas.
As the acting CEO of Latvijas Radio acknowledged in an interview, the reorganization is intended to save municipal funds. According to her, the suburban executive directorates are spending too much money and the newly entrusted administration will be able to cope with the functions entrusted to them.
The Riga Pardaugava Executive Directorate is headed by Valērijs Koķis, a member of Sadarbas, while the Northern Executive Directorate is headed by Sergejs Kristolubovs, and the Eastern Executive Directorate is headed by Dmitrijs Pavlovs. Kristolubov and Pavlov ran in the “Honor to serve Riga” list in extraordinary elections, but were not elected.
Candidate for the position of Riga Mayor Mārtiņš Staķis from “For Development / About!” and the Progressive Party’s (APP) joint list have so far been cautious about the idea, while stressing that reforms will be needed.
“It is clear that these liability issues are very fragmented. For example, four different departments are responsible for this 200 square meter square. It is not right! Change is needed. Whether that is the case or not – it must be agreed with the new coalition partners, ”said Staķis.
Meanwhile, Anna Vladova, the deputy chairman of the new Riga City Council faction, is not satisfied with the idea of liquidating the municipal executive directorates.
“I don’t think it matters which party’s executive is run. That is not the story. The story is that executive directorates have a lot of functions to perform. They are the first people with whom the public and Rigans communicate. If the administration or the future coalition now plans to close altogether, which institution will perform these duties? ” rhetorically asked Vladova.
The stacker hopes that already on Friday, September 4, the outline of the future coalition will be clearer, and then it will be possible to decide on further work, including the future of executive directorates.
Until the new council is operational, the capital is run by the interim administration of Riga municipality. It does not intend to decide on the reorganization of the suburban executive directorates, leaving it to the decision on the proposal for the new council term.
