Saudi Arabia announced on Saturday evening the lifting of most restrictions linked to the Covid-19 pandemic, in particular by exempting vaccinated travelers from quarantine or screening tests, a measure which should facilitate the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca.
Quoted by the official SPA news agency, an official from the Ministry of the Interior said that “from Saturday, wearing a mask will no longer be compulsory outside and social distancing will no longer be required in public spaces, including in mosques. Wearing a mask remains compulsory in closed places.
The Saudi kingdom, home to Islam’s two main holy sites, Mecca and Medina, has also lifted the requirement to show vaccinated travelers a negative drug test, as well as the requirement to self-isolate upon arrival. .
