The developer of Provenance, an emulator app that can be installed on your iPhone through unofficial channels for a while, has announced that they are working towards releasing the app in the App Store. You can then install it on iPhone and Apple TV. Origin it has support for games from the PlayStation 1, GameCube, Wii, SEGA Genesis, Atari 2600 and more – so your iPhone can get a variety of games.

Why are all these emulator apps suddenly coming to the App Store? This has to do with new rules for the app store. Since the opening of the App Store, Apple has always prohibited emulator apps from being offered, but it has now changed that policy.

This is probably mainly because third party app stores are now allowed on the iPhone due to the new EU law. It seems Apple is concerned that people would flock to these app stores for emulators if they weren’t also offered in the App Store, so the App Store policy has been relaxed.
