Empty supermarket shelves threaten: one out of three food companies fears bankruptcy

VdEW represents the food industry in Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Bremen. If we extrapolate the data of the regional association to Germany as a whole, about 2,000 of the 6,000 companies would be on the verge of existence. 200,000 jobs would be at risk.

A domino effect could threaten, especially if companies that produce important primary products such as sugar, meat or jelly were to declare bankruptcy. Disruption of supply chains could cause severe restrictions, especially for smaller companies, which may face a complete shutdown of production.
