Empowerment and Creativity Workshops at Dubai Public Libraries: The Schools of Life Project

Workshops rich in knowledge and diverse cultural experiences, offered by the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) to patrons of Dubai’s public libraries, through the “Book”, “Fine Arts”, “Chess”, “Languages” and “Drawing” clubs, which fall under the umbrella of The “Schools of Life” project aims to empower community members, develop their creative skills, hone their abilities in the fields of arts, raise their level of awareness, and encourage them to adopt concepts of quality of life.

The variety of interactive workshops presented in Arabic and English gives participants the opportunity to learn about the importance of space and practice innovation through the “Innovation Hackathon,” in addition to reviewing the works of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, and discussing valuable books.

“Schools of Life” will appear next February under the title “Innovation and Space,” as Al-Safa Arts and Design Library offers its visitors a series of sessions, including “Innovation in Leadership,” in which Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Ali Al-Nuaimi, known as “The Green Sheikh,” focuses on On ways to solve problems and future thinking, while Nahla Moussa allows participants in the “Innovation Choir” workshop to explore the unique connection between music and creativity, while Salman gives the torch through the “How do I create innovators?” workshop? Parents, teachers, and librarians ways to encourage and develop children’s creativity skills, and stimulate their spirit of innovation.

From February 13 to 15, Al-Safa Arts and Design will host the “Innovation Hackathon” activities, which will be held under the supervision of a group of BrainPad experts, in which children, aged between eight and 14 years, will learn the basics of developing “ Arcade games (arcade games), their programming, technical details, design arts, and control methods. They will also be able to delve deeper into this field by learning ways to connect electronic circuits to arcade games, and combining the digital and physical aspects of game development. During the event, they will have the opportunity to express their skills and creativity. On the third day, the winners of the hackathon will be announced, and the achievements of emerging developers will be celebrated.

As part of the “Wiki Club” activities, the Rashidiya and Hatta Public Libraries are hosting the “Wikipedia Ambassador for Innovation” workshop, which represents part of the club’s program aimed at enabling participants to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to prepare and create various materials, and methods for editing them using artificial intelligence tools and publishing them on the encyclopedia website. Participants in the “Making the Moon Lamp” workshop, presented by Noura Al-Awa at the Rashidiya Public Library, will learn how to form and assemble a lamp inspired by the moon using safe materials, while Nour Al-Husaybi will present to visitors of the Mankhool Public Library the “Innovate for Space” workshop, focusing on Concepts of innovation and the importance of space exploration, and learning about the experience of inspiring figures in the Emirates Space Programme.

As for the “Book Club,” it offers patrons of the Al-Safa Library of Arts and Design a “Journey Through a Book” workshop, which allows reviewing and discussing a group of valuable books, under the supervision of Dalia Abu Al-Atta.

The artist Magdy Kafrawi supervises the workshops of the “Fine Arts” Club at the Al-Safa Library for Arts and Design. While the “Drawing Club” provides library patrons with the opportunity to explore the works of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, through several workshops.

In conjunction with the 12th edition of the SIKKA Arts and Design Festival, which will be held from February 23 to March 3, the “Schools of Life” in the historic Shindagha neighborhood will present a “Delicious Stories” workshop, supervised by Lamia Tawfiq, during which children will be able to explore the world of… Stories inspired by different types of food.
