Lazio sure to finish runner-up Serie A 2022/2023. It was after Aquile beat the host Empoli 2-0.
In match week 38 at Stadio Comunale Carlo Castellani, Sunday (4/6/2023) early morning WIB, Lazio must win in order to shift Inter Milan from second in the standings, who a few hours earlier beat Torino 1-0.
Lazio lost two players Daniel Cataldi and Adam Marsuci. However, Lazio is still too tough for Empoli, who are left behind by many of their core players.
Throughout the match, Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario was busy blocking opportunity after opportunity from Lazio. Ciro Immobile up front was frustrated in the first 45 minutes.
Then the goal that was awaited came in the 48th minute or three minutes after the break. Alessio Romagnoli headed in a Luis Alberto corner at the near post and Vicario couldn’t keep it out.
Vicario had to struggle to ward off Immobile’s aggressive ball. The second goal that Lazio had been waiting for came at the end of the match.
Mattia Zacagni stabbed in from the right to provide the ball which was met with a first-time shot at Vicario’s goal. The 2-0 score closed the Empoli vs Lazio match.
The result that ensured Lazio finished second in 2022/2023 Serie A standings with 74 points, two points ahead of Inter Milan who are content to finish third and 13 points different from Napoli. Empoli are in 14th place with 43 points.
