Jul 26, 2021 – The employment rate of zone OCDE – the share of people of working age with a job – was up to 66.8% in the first quarter of 2021, against 66.7% in the previous quarter. The interpretation of the most recent developments in the employment rate of the‘OECD should be done with caution, as changes in the European Union Labor Force Survey affect the comparison between the fourth quarter of 2020 and the first quarter of 2021. In addition, a large part of the increase in the third , and, to a lesser extent, in the fourth quarter of 2020, reflects the return to work of workers on short-time work in Canada and to United States, where they are recorded as unemployed, while they are recorded as employed in most other countries.
In the euro zones, the employment rate was 66.9% in the first quarter of 2021, compared to 68.4% in United States and 77.6% at Japan. A great disparity is also observed within the zone, with employment rates ranging from a maximum of 79.3% to Netherlands at a minimum of 53.9% in Greece.

1) The graph provides a more comparable view of movements in employment statistics in the United States with movements in most other OECD countries, where short-time workers are included in the official statistics of the United States. use. This should not, however, be interpreted as official alternative statistics for the United States. In this graph, the number of employed people covers the 16 to 64 age group, while the number of unemployed on temporary layoff covers the 16 and over age group.
