Employment of people with disabilities stagnates in Yonne

Finding a job in Yonne is even more difficult when you suffer from a disability or a chronic illness recognized as an occupational illness. However, the employment rate in companies with more than fifty employees is supposed to reach at least 6%. But this legal obligation is not sufficiently respected. Many Icaunese companies prefer to pay a fine rather than fulfill their obligation. There is therefore still a way to go to break down fears and taboos around disability in the company.

To raise awareness among companies and workers with disabilities, workshops are organized by France Travail for disabled job seekers and meetings are planned with companies in the department.

An opportunity to find new talents

CLP Packaging in Migennes, for example, is participating in Duo Day this week. A person with a disability is welcomed all day in the company by an employee to show them the different workstations. An opportunity for the company to find new talents assures Elisabeth Poulain, HR manager and disability referent at CLP Packaging. “We are rather looking for skills, involved people and these people with disabilities often have a lot of desire and are very motivated. We have experienced this on numerous occasions in the company. We have also hired migrant people It is in our CSR policy, we meet our legal obligation of 6% of employees with disabilities and we even go beyond.“. CLP Packaging employs 80 employees on permanent contracts and up to two hundred people in the summer during peak periods.

“As soon as I mention my disability, I get a negative response”

But there are not yet enough companies in the department that carry out this approach, notes Steven. He was dismissed for incapacity last February following health problems. “I have applied to many companies and temp agencies but as soon as I mention my disability, that I cannot do this or that action, I get a negative response. I feel like I’m apart, of no use.” Steven concluded in disappointment.

Other workshops are being organized this week to break down barriers, notably this Thursday, November 21 at the Tonnerre and Sens employment center. The program is available on capemploi89
