(6-4-2021). The sports and entertainment sectors have signed the best month-on-month rise in new social security affiliates this March since October 2020. This month 4,102 new workers have been added, which contrasts with the more than 21,000 jobs destroyed in these segments since the start of the pandemic.

The number of social security affiliates in the sports, recreational and entertainment sectors stood at 193,586 workers in March, representing 4,102 new jobs compared to those registered in February, according to data published by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy. This is an improvement in the employment figure of 2.2%, which represents the best month-on-month rebound since October 2020 and indicates a start of recovery for these sectors.

The number of affiliates employed by others rose to 162,929 workers in March, 2.3% more than in February. While self-employed workers have risen to 30,656, 1.2% more than in the previous month.

More than 21,000 jobs destroyed by the pandemic

Compared to March 2020, enrollment in social security in these sectors has fallen by 10.1%, with a total of 21,864 jobs in sports and the recreational sector having been lost since the outbreak of the pandemic a year ago and of entertainment.

By categories, where there would have been a greater concentration of job destruction would be in employed workers, whose figure has decreased by 12% compared to March 2020. For their part, the self-employed have increased their volume by 1, 2% compared to March last year.

At a general level, unemployment in this month of March was below 4 million, specifically, 3,949,640 unemployed.
