As the job market hit by Corona 19 continues, the decrease in the number of employed workers in Ulsan last month was the largest in the country.
According to the’Employment Trend of Ulsan City in November’ released on the 16th by the Southeast Regional Statistics Office, the number of employed last month was 562,000, a decrease of 18,000 (-3.1%) from the same month last year.
Local employees are employed in March (-6 thousand), April (-17,000), May (-18,000), June (-2 million), July (-15,000), 8 It decreased for 9 consecutive months following month (-11,000 people), September (-14,000 people), and October (-16,000 people). The decline gradually decreased from the bottom in June, but expanded again from September due to the re-proliferation of Corona 19.
In particular, last month’s employment reduction rate (-3.1%) was three times the national average (-1.0%), the highest among 17 cities and provinces nationwide. During this period, only Ulsan recorded a 3% decline in the number of employed people nationwide.
Although the first step of social distancing measures in October had an effect in November, the decline has expanded from the previous month.
By industry, the manufacturing industry, which has supported the Ulsan economy, followed by the wholesale, retail and lodging restaurants, which were directly damaged by social distancing, was directly hit by the employment cold.
Wholesale, retail and lodging and restaurant businesses (-11.8%) decreased by 13,000 people compared to a year ago, and manufacturing (-6.7%) decreased by 11,000 people. The manufacturing industry, which was regarded as a decent job, has declined for 62 consecutive months since October 2015 due to the economic slowdown due to the Corona 19 incident.
On the other hand, it increased in the construction industry (4,000 people, 10.5%), businesses, individuals, public services, and others (1,000 people, 0.3%).
By employment status, both waged workers (-10,000) and non-wage workers (8,000) decreased.
Among wage workers, the number of regular workers increased by 2,000, but temporary workers (-5 thousand) and daily workers (-7 thousand) decreased.
The number of self-employed among non-wage workers decreased by 4,000 (-3.9%). The number of self-employed persons with employees decreased by 3,000, and those without employees remained at the same level. The number of unpaid family workers decreased by 5,000.
Statistically, the number of temporary leavers classified as employed was 12,000, an increase of 3,000. Temporary leave is a person who has a job but is temporarily taking a break from work.
In the aftermath of Corona 19, the number of temporary workers in Ulsan from January to November this year reached 217,000.
Last month, the employment rate in Ulsan recorded 58.3%, down 1.8 percentage points from a year ago. The employment rate was below the national average (60.7%), ranking 15th out of 17 cities and provinces, remaining at a low level.
The number of unemployed was 19,000, down 2,000 (-10.6%) from a year ago, and the unemployment rate fell 0.3%p to 3.3%. The economically active population was 581,000, down 20,000 (-3.3%) from the same month last year, and the economically active participation rate fell 2.0%p to 60.3%.
The number of inactive economically active populations who were neither employed nor unemployed during the survey was 383,000, an increase of 19,000 (5.2%) from a year ago.
This November’s employment trend in Ulsan is the result of a survey of economic activity from the 15th to the 21st of last month, targeting the population aged 15 and over residing in 1,400 sampled households in Ulsan.
