‘The future of our energy supply is in danger.’ The employers’ organizations VBO, Voka, Unizo, Boerenbond and their French-speaking counterparts react with concern to the report of Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten (Groen).

They want answers about security of supply, prices, the impact on CO2 emissions and concerns about geopolitical risks. As long as there is no thorough answer to this, they fear ‘hasty and uncertain decisions’.
‘Now that it appears that one of the two new power stations that were selected in the CRM (support mechanism, ed.) has not received a permit, there is a risk of a shortage of 800 MW in energy production in our country’, according to the employers. ‘A conclusive solution for security of supply from the winter of 2025-2026 is not guaranteed today.’
They therefore ‘urgently’ request that all possible avenues be investigated ‘quickly but thoroughly’.
Van der Straeten’s memorandum contains answers to their questions, including on geopolitical risks, for example, where Van der Straeten refers to the large and diverse import capacity for gas that Belgium has at its disposal. But employers clearly don’t like the answer.
