Weilheim. According to a press release from IG Metall, employees of the Kesseböhmer company in Weilheim have been working several hours a week for free for decades. Always with the promise of the boss, Oliver Kesseböhmer, that this will secure their jobs. Now things have turned out differently for the manufacturer of height-adjustable table frames. First, the Kesseböhmer location, which has its headquarters in Dahlinghausen (Lower Saxony), was renamed EPT Energietechnik Produktions GmbH & Co. KG. Bankruptcy came a few days later. Since then, the employees have hoped that a buyer would take over the factory and that things would continue somehow.
The Swiss company Lista was discussed as a possible interested party for some time. In this context, over 90 jobs have already been cut in order to be able to present a lean company. The employees were offered the opportunity to move to a transfer company for six months. The hope of a takeover was dashed because Lista was no longer interested.
According to IG Metall, the name Kesseböhmer is suddenly back in the spotlight. Apparently the same Oliver Kesseböhmer, whom no one has seen in Weilheim since the bankruptcy last fall, is now suddenly interested in the work again. However, more than 40 employees would lose their jobs beforehand.
The works council, which had grudgingly supported the previous measures, has now had enough. According to information from IG Metall, he demands that Kesseböhmer accept its responsibility, cushion possible personnel measures in a socially acceptable manner and maintain the location.
IG Metall Esslingen has no understanding at all for Kesseböhmer’s behavior, especially considering that the company advertises that it has received an award for a special sense of responsibility in the social area. Thomas Maier, union secretary, explains that the situation is unprecedented in the region. “First leading the company into bankruptcy and then collecting the leftovers again,” he describes as responsible and unscrupulous behavior. pm
