Everything is aligned for the opening of the Mordpion. This new games barwhich also offers restorationopens its doors this Wednesday, September 4, 2024, rue Gambetta, in Le Mans (Sarthe), in place of the former dog and cat accessories store.
Fun and entertainment will be the golden rules for the two co-managers and friends who will be supported by two employees.
They bring board games and entertainment on a platter
“We are passionate about games and we wanted to undertake in a field of hobbies : we wanted to please ourselves and make others happy,” explains Luc Hamelin, co-manager of the place.
180 board games of all kinds await future customers: role-playing games, board games, party games, escape games… there is something for all tastes and for all numbers of players.
Where does the name of the place come from?
It was after a game of ping-pong that the name “Le Mordpion” emerged and after a slip of the tongue: while he was thinking about mikado, one of the two managers said the word “morpion”. They opted for this name which is composed of “mordre” for the restoration part and “pion”, a piece used in certain games. And it was a good thing, the two combined form the name of another game!
The managers want to be reassuring: everyone can come to the Mordpionnot just the most initiated. “We want a gaming offer for everyone and also welcome novices“, assures Luc Hamelin, 37 years old.

The team of Mordpion wants to go further than providing board games. It wants to organize theme eveningsin order to provide entertainment to customers.
“There will be quizzes, musical bingo and other surprises,” lists Luc Hamelin, who does not want to reveal too much. “We want to try to create original things with all kinds of entertainment.”
“A place to meet and create memories”
In its 60 m2 reception area, whose walls are decorated with images of pawns made up as Link from the Zelda saga or Princess Peach from the Mario universe, the team also offers restoration.
“Pizzas, salads, open sandwiches… We will also make sunday brunch“, lists the co-manager. As for drinks, cocktails, beers and hot drinks complete the menu.
The two men, who both work in the insurance sector, wanted to go further and create their own concept by combining board games, entertainment and catering.
“We already wanted to work together and the desire to undertake an activity with human contact and the pleasure of receiving,” recalls Luc Hamelin. “We wanted a place to meet and where create memories ! »
