Two weeks ago, NRK was able to report that 147 employees in Nortura are in danger of losing their jobs they have today.
The background was a proposal from the company’s group management. They wanted to close down the pig cutting departments in Steinkjer and Stavanger in favor of a new and modernized factory in Tønsberg.
The proposal has since been on the table of Nortura’s corporate board. Now they have made the decision. It was announced in a press release from Nortura on Tuesday morning:
The new part of the factory in Tønsberg is scheduled to be completed after the summer of 2023, after which the cutting activity in Steinkjer and at Forus will be gradually reduced.
There are thus a total of 147 employees: 79 in Steinkjer in Trøndelag and 68 at Forus in Stavanger.
«The investment is a move to trigger opportunities for automation and economies of scale in production. The measure, which is part of the restructuring of the industrial structure for red meat, will benefit the farmer in the form of better raw material prices and the customers in the form of increased innovation and more attractive products.», Says chairman of the board Trine Hasvang Vaag in a press release.
The slaughterhouse operations at the two plants will not be affected, according to Nortura.
NRK has previously been informed that the employees in Steinkjer and Stavanger will be given priority in the employment at the new factory in Tønsberg.
NRK updates the case.
