Employees earned in 2021 just 118 euros more than in 2011 – Society

Employees earned, in 2021, discounting the effect of inflation, an average of 1,294 euros, just 118 euros more than ten years earlier, according to data released by Pordata.

According to Pordata, “with regard to large professional groups”, some “earn salaries above the national average”, with emphasis on “representatives of the legislative power and executive bodies (+1,483 euros)”, “intellectual professions and scientific (+701 euros)”, “intermediate level technicians (+314 euros), among which there is an exception: intermediate level health technicians and professionals earn 108 euros less than the national average”, he stressed .

Pordata also detailed that, within these three groups mentioned, “the highest paid professions concern management or direction positions”, such as “representatives of the legislative power and executive bodies, senior leaders of Public Administration, directors and managers of companies (earned, on average, 3,577 euros); directors of administrative and commercial services (3,091 euros); directors of production and specialized services (2,826 euros); and technicians from legal, social, sports and cultural services (2,331 euros )”.

Professions in the STEM areas (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) “are also among the best paid, with salaries above 1,850 euros”, indicated Pordata.

This group includes “specialists in information and communication technologies (ICT) (2,198 euros)”, “finance, accounting, administrative organisation, public and commercial relations (2,111 euros)”, “physical sciences, mathematics, engineering (2,019 euros)” and “health professionals (1,869 euros)”.

On the other hand, with regard to the lowest paid professions “are those of assistant in the preparation of meals (761 euros), cleaning worker (791 euros) and personal care worker (818 euros)”, he indicated.

Pordata also analyzed the wage inequality between men and women, concluding that the biggest gap is found “among intermediate-level technicians in legal, social, sports and cultural services (men earn, on average, more than 2,409 euros)”.

Among the areas with the greatest gap between men and women are representatives of the legislative power and executive bodies, senior leaders of Public Administration, directors and managers of companies, in which “men earn, on average, 1,070 euros more than women “, he indicated.

With regard to the best-paid economic sectors, according to Pordata, “they are electricity, gas and water (they earned, on average, 1,672 euros more than the national average) and financial and insurance activities (+1,080 euros )”, while, on the contrary, “the accommodation and catering sector and agriculture are the least well paid (-380 euros and -283 euros compared to the national average)”.

The organization also noted that “the economic sectors that generated the most wealth (GVA – Gross Added Value) in 2020 are also those where the average wages of workers were below the national average”.

Pordata gave examples of the manufacturing industry, which “generated 13.8% of GVA, with emphasis on the food and textile industries” and “where average wages are 121 euros and 340 euros lower than the national average”, as well as ” real estate activities and commerce (13.4% and 13.1% of GVA), public administration and health (7.4% and 7% of GVA)”, noting that “in health, the difference compared to the national average is -145 euros”.

However, he indicated, the biggest differences compared to the national average “are found in accommodation and catering (-380 euros, with a GVA of 3.6%), in agriculture (-283 euros, with a GVA of 2.5% ) and in administrative activities and support services (-208 euros, with a GVA of 3.8%)”.
