A 50-year-old Ostend resident is on trial in the Bruges court for computer fraud. AA committed fraud with the fuel card of the custom company he worked for.
The Ostend company discovered the tampering in the spring of 2021. One of their employees had a car and associated fuel card. He could fill up with CNG at a pump at the company, but on certain invoices his employer had determined that petrol and diesel had also been refueled with the fuel card. And that also during the weekend. “The defendant appeared to refuel for private use, but also allowed third parties to use his fuel card,” said the lawyer for the civil party.
According to the customization company, AA misused its fuel card no fewer than 39 times between January 1, 2020 and April 30, 2021. He allegedly wrongly spent 2,383 euros. The Public Prosecution Service did not demand any concrete punishment for the Ostend resident, who still has a clean criminal record. The defense urged a suspension of sentence. “My client admits the facts, but says that he used his fuel card a maximum of 10 times during the weekend,” argued master Stijn Leliaert. AA no longer works for the company in question. Verdict on January 5
