The General Directorate for Cultural Heritage Rhineland-Palatinate (GDKE) – Directorate of the Rhineland State Museum Trier in the Center of Antiquity – is hiring an employee (m/f/d) in the field of marketing and press/public relations as soon as possible, limited to December 31, 2025, on a part-time basis with half the average weekly working hours of a full-time employee (currently 19.5 hours per week). The area of responsibility is rated according to E 9b TV-L. The place of work is Trier.
The General Directorate for Cultural Heritage Rhineland-Palatinate (GDKE) is the upper state authority directly subordinate to the Ministry of the Interior and Sport and brings together six directorates as well as various staff units for central administrative, marketing and construction tasks under one roof.
The Rhineland State Museum in Trier is one of the most important archaeological museums in Germany. The abundance and quality of the evidence from Roman times is outstanding. The museum also documents the history and cultural development of the entire region from prehistory to the end of the 18th century. The collection is continually enriched by new finds from the State Archaeology Department, Trier branch, which is subordinate to the State Archaeology Directorate. The Rhineland State Museum, together with the Porta Nigra, the Imperial Baths, the Amphitheater, the baths at the Viehmarkt, the Barbara Baths, the Igel Column and the Roman Villa Otrang in Fließem, form the “Center of Ancient Trier.”
The interesting area of responsibility includes:
- Development and implementation of concepts for media profiling and marketing of the permanent exhibition and the Trier Antiquity Centre, including reporting
- Coordination of joint communication measures and within the GDKE in coordination with central marketing
- Cooperation with sales, press and graphic agencies as well as tourism
- Writing advertising texts, editing and distribution of advertising materials
- Writing press releases, press analysis, maintaining media contacts and press distribution lists, planning and conducting press conferences and press trips
- Contact with cooperation partners in tourism
- Planning and implementation of events
- Website maintenance, communication via social media
To carry out these tasks, we require several years of professional experience in marketing, press and public relations for cultural or tourism institutions, ideally supplemented by a completed university degree in media or communication sciences or a humanities subject, and experience in public administration is an advantage.
We are also looking for the following skills, experience and abilities to complement our team:
- Strong assertiveness, ability to work in a team and organizational skills
- high affinity to cultural topics
- high level of commitment, flexibility and independence
- Convincing appearance and confident use of the German language, both written and spoken, as well as very good knowledge of English; knowledge of French is desirable
- competent, convincing and friendly demeanor
- Confident use of standard office applications and basic knowledge of digital image processing and the use of content management systems, e.g. TYPO3
- Class B or 3 driving license with appropriate driving experience
The regular weekly working hours are 19.5 hours per week.
