The man was arrested and detained on Friday, which Today’s industry first wrote about.

According to the suspicions, the man has received large sums of money over the course of three years through, among other things, bribes.

Now he is wanted in custody, on probable grounds suspected of gross bribery and gross disloyalty to the principal. Those crimes must have taken place at a Swedish embassy in an African country.

The man was detained on Friday afternoon for the criminal suspicions.

He is also suspected of gross fraud, which allegedly took place over two years in Stockholm.

Johan Forssell: “Seriously”

Sweden’s aid agency Sida has confirmed to SVT that they are the ones who reported the matter to the police.

– We are investigating all suspicions and have reported the incident to the police ourselves. I can’t say more, says Johan Tjerneng, press secretary at Sida, to SVT.

Aid Minister Johan Forssell says, according to Aftonbladet, in a comment:

“We take very seriously all information about corruption in Swedish aid. For me, it is crucial that Swedish taxpayers should always feel completely secure that Swedish aid is used efficiently and correctly. Regarding the specific case, we refer to Sida and responsible authorities”.
