【Youth Daily 】The residents of Gangnam-gu and Gangnam-gu, Seoul strongly opposed the possibility of changing the design plan for the new Samsung-dong Global Business Center (GBC), which is known to be under consideration by Hyundai Motor Group.
This is because it is known that Hyundai Motor Group is considering constructing two or three 70-story buildings instead of a 105-story tower as originally planned.
Gangnam-gu Commissioner Jeong Soon-gyun announced on the 21st that he opposes the change, saying, “The establishment of GBC is a future investment project that drives the national economy and is a symbol of the next 100 years.”
The basic and detailed design of GBC was a plan to build one 105-story tower, one lodging and business facility, and five facilities including exhibitions, conventions, and performance halls on the former KEPCO site (74,148㎡).
However, it is known that Hyundai Motor Group is currently considering changing the design for reasons such as investment effect and cost reduction, and is considering constructing two or three 70-story buildings instead of a new 105-story building.
“The construction of GBC is a project that creates 1.25 million jobs and can expect economic effects of 268 trillion won, along with a large-scale development project in Yeongdong-daero,” said Jeong Gu. We strongly urge that the GBC new construction project proceed according to the original plan.”
In addition, residents and merchants in the Samseong-dong area are also reported to have moved to sign opposition to Hyundai Motor’s design change plan.
Meanwhile, Honorary Chairman Chung Mong-koo bought the former KEPCO site in Samseong-dong for 10.55 trillion won, more than three times the appraised value at the time in 2014. Hyundai Motor Group began construction of the Global Business Center (GBC) in May, six years after the site was purchased.
