The Emperor, Power and Josephine

The film explores Napoleon’s visionary military and political tactics through some of the most dynamic battle scenes ever filmed. “Napoleon is a man who has always fascinated me. He appeared out of nowhere and ended up ruling everything, while also having a constant battle with his unfaithful Josephine. He conquered the world to get her love, and when that didn’t work, he conquered the world to destroy her, and in the end he destroyed himself,” says the film’s director, Ridley Scott, whose name is known to everyone in Hollywood.
The role of Napoleon is played by actor Joaquin Phoenix, with whom Scott worked more than 20 years ago in the film “Gladiator”. It’s been a long time, Phoenix can be proud of his “Joker” Oscar, is one of the brightest stars in Hollywood, and his name is attracting additional attention, interest and also funding for the new film about Napoleon.
When it was necessary to start looking for an actor for the title role, Ridley Scott, without thinking long, focused on the candidacy of Phoenix. “Joaquin looks a lot like Napoleon, doesn’t he?” the director smiles and says: “I didn’t tell him because I didn’t want him to feel too important. And, of course, I appreciate his performance in Joker. Yes, I didn’t like how the movie justified the violence in its own way, but he was brilliant. In addition, it is clear that he would help me ‘sell’ the new film.”
