Emperor Constantine the Great Statue Reconstructed to Original Scale and Displayed in Villa Cafarili Garden

The 13-meter statue of the emperor who recognized Christianity, Constantine the Great, reconstructed to its original scale, was displayed in the garden of Villa Cafarili. The reconstruction of the Colossus is the result of a collaboration between the Capitoline Superintendency, the Fondazione Prada and the Factum Foundation for Digital Technology.

The statue of Constantine (4th century AD) is one of the most significant examples of late antique Roman sculpture. Of the entire statue, discovered in the 15th century in the basilica of Emperor Maxentius, only a few monumental marble fragments remain today, kept in the courtyard of the Palazzo dei Conservatori in the Capitoline Museums, such as the head and parts of the wrist, right arm, right knee and feet.
