Emotional Upheaval at Holle Poarte Campsite as Regular Guests Forced to Leave After Decades

One has been coming there for over 30 years, the other has had a mobile home there for 26 years. Yet these regular guests have to leave the field at Holle Poarte campsite in Makkum. The caravans must make way for free pitches.

It is a subject that causes emotion among the residents of the mobile homes on field F of the campsite. The letter they received from the owners just before Christmas fell raw on the roof.

“It’s one big family here,” says Francis van de Laar. He has had a caravan on Holle Poarte for 20 years and is one of the writers of the residents’ association. “We never say we are going to the campsite, but to Makkum. We know everyone here, including in the village itself.”

“During the corona crisis, we asked whether they had plans to sell or change the campsite,” says Cor Hoogers. He is chairman of the Holle Poarte residents’ association. “Then there was a lot of fuss with campsites and we might have been able to get a good price for the mobile home. But they said they had no plans.”
