Emotional Stories from A Sunday in the Countryside: François-Xavier Demaison and Vincent Lagaf Share Personal Experiences

François-Xavier Demaison was alongside Frédéric Lopez, this Sunday, November 12, for the show A Sunday in the countryside. While the guests were preparing the meal around a table, the host took the opportunity to return to the day of September 11, 2001. At the time, François-Xavier Demaison was not yet a comedian and worked in a New York company that provided tax consultations. “All this amuses you at first, I imagine.”asked Frédéric Lopez. “Change of meadow makes the calf happy”, replied François-Xavier Demaison straight away. At first, he is happy with this new position, but gradually, the future comedian asks himself questions. On the morning of September 11, 2001, like every day, he left for work. As he passes a hairdresser who has a television, he sees a tower on fire. But this does not worry the young man who then thinks that it is a film.

Once arrived in his open space, François-Xavier Demaison understands. His colleagues explain to him that the twin towers are burning. “ We end up walking down and there I see this kind of black cloud rising from the south of Manhattan “, explained the comedian. He then decides to return home, but all the metros are closed. “I start walking and there, gradually, I see people coming back up, covered in ashes,” said François-Xavier Demaison, before continuing: “ It’s apocalyptic. » He had the impression of “living through a war scene”. For several weeks, the neighborhood is blocked and there are candles lighting on the steps of the small buildings “, he described.

Vincent Lagaf in tears

During this show, the host Vincent Lagaf returned to the loss of his best friend. “Gégé”, was his “binomial” work for the Compagnie maritime d’expertises. Together, the young men supervised each other’s work to avoid any accidents. “We are really two friends… But two brothers,” explained Vincent Lagaf. The future actor is called to go to Djibouti, in East Africa, to cut up a beached boat. “ They tell us ‘there’s a complicated project, you have to go there with Gégé’ “, he said. But during a working day, “we heard a very dull noise. A plume of dust, smoke… I am the first, I show up and, there, what I see is horror,” described Vincent Lagaf, wiping a tear. “ It’s terrible. I see half a guy “, he clarified, indicating that he had to announce the death to his friend’s father.
