Erik Johnson was back in Denver for the first time after the move.
Then the 35-year-old back was welcomed back by the children Landeskog.
“Wrong shirt, but we will always love you Uncle EJ,” read the sign they held up at the sideline.
Erik Johnson will always be part of the Landeskog family and the Colorado Avalanche.
The back giant played 13 seasons in the club and won the Stanley Cup in 2022 before moving to the Buffalo Sabers this summer.
During the warm-up had a special moment with Gabriel Landeskog, his wife and the two children.
Erik Johnson went up to the family with the sign, gave them a fist bump through the plexiglass and handed the kids a puck.
Colorado Avalanche skriver: ”We’re not crying, you’re crying” och ”Hockey is family”.
The crowd also gave him a standing ovation during a tribute video on the jumbotron.
Broken by the memories
When Erik Johnson met the media before the game, he couldn’t hold back the tears and had to cancel.
– It is a very special place for me and my family. I’m looking forward to playing in front of the fans who have been so amazing to me for so long. Denver is home to me now. It is one of the best cities in the country and one of the best organizations. It was a great time, I’m so grateful, says Erik Johnson who is from Minnesota from the start.
Colorado Avalanche won the game 5–1, Nathan MacKinnon has scored 13 consecutive games and in them 21 points (six goals and 15 assists).
Due to the knee injury, Gabriel Landeskog has not played the last two seasons.
