OSLO – Three-time Olympic champion and thirteen-time world champion in biathlon Marte Olsbu Röiseland will end her career after the season. The 32-year-old Norwegian representative announced this at a press conference, AFP reported.
“Biathlon will forever be in my heart and I will say goodbye to it at Holmenkollen. It will be my last World Cup race,” Röiseland said. “It’s a strange feeling, sad but also incredibly uplifting. I can’t wait for the next chapter of my life.” added.
“It’s the right time. I’ve had this feeling for a whole year. The previous year was amazing for me, but I’m glad I lasted one more year. It was hard, but it was worth it.” Röiseland said according to biathlonworld.com.
Röiseland won all three Olympic gold medals at last year’s Beijing Games, where she dominated the sprint, the pursuit and was also a member of the winning mixed relay team. In addition, she added two bronzes in China, she also has two silvers from the 2018 Games.
She triumphed at the World Championships a total of thirteen times and is the female record holder. To this she added four bronze medals. In the 2021/2022 season, she dominated the overall ranking of the World Cup, but the ongoing year was complicated by health problems.
In the series, Röiseland claimed a total of 19 winning individual races, the last time she celebrated twice in March in Nové Mesto in Moravia.
