Emotional event in memory of victims marked September 11 – 2024-09-11 22:25:24

With the presence of regional authorities and social leaders, an act of memory and tribute was held on the occasion of the commemoration of September 11, 1973, an activity that was organized by the Seremi of Government and that took place in front of the former Cachapoal Governorate in the regional capital.

“For the Government of President Gabriel Boric, this date is very important because we are convinced that preserving historical memory is essential in the effort to build a more just, conscious and cohesive society, because through remembrance, we seek not only to honor the victims of the dictatorship, but also to strengthen the foundations of democracy and prevent the repetition of past tragedies,” said the Seremi of Government, Carlos Carrasco.

The Presidential Delegate commented that “it is very important, especially for current and future generations, to preserve the value of history.”

The social leader and family member of the disappeared detainee, Patricia Muñoz, said that “it is very important to carry out these events because there is a group of people in this country who want to deny history. In these activities it is important to commemorate not only us, the relatives and the victims of the dictatorship, but also the Government of Salvador Allende and everything that he achieved in favor of the workers.”

During the event, which included speeches by the Mayor of Rancagua, the Regional Minister of Government and the parish priest Hugo Yáñez, an excerpt from the last message of the former President, Salvador Allende, was broadcast and a photo exhibition by the Institute of Human Rights was presented.

At the end of the activity, the authorities handed out red carnations in recognition of emblematic leaders of Rancagua who suffered the effects of the dictatorship, either personally or through their immediate family members.
