Emotional Dance Tribute to Grandmother: Christer Rødseth’s Story on TV2’s Skal Vi Danse

Today’s theme for the dancers in TV2’s Skal vi danse was to tell a story from their own youth. The dance was to be dedicated to a special person. For Finstadbru fellow Christer Rødseth, the choice fell on a family member. The dance was supposed to be in honor of his grandmother Reidun.

– She was a small lady with a lot of fur. There was nothing about grandma saying best west. Maybe with the exception of the amount of brown cream she had, Rødseth tells TV2 and smiles.

He can tell about an observant grandmother who had no prejudices.

– I came out of the closet as queer quite young, but never told my grandmother. She understood and told me. If you don’t bring a girl soon, you can bring a boy. I think that was very nice, We had a close relationship, he comments further.

Christer was with his grandmother a lot. He was also the one who found the grandmother the night she died.

– Then I had to call my mother to tell her that she was gone. It is perhaps the worst thing I have done in my entire life, said Rødseth to TV2 before the dance.

Tough feedback

Morten Hegseth was the first of the judges to give feedback.

– You are a lovely type. We must judge by the dance and not by the story. Expected to be set. I became one from what was said, but not from the dance. This was not a memorable dance for me, said Hegseth.

His fellow judge shared his view of the dance they had just seen on the parquet floor at Fornebu.

– Everyone has a strong story and great motivation tonight. You walk the steps today, you don’t dance them. Unfortunately. You tell a lovely and beautiful story. I’m sure your family is proud of you, said Merete Lingjærde after the dance.

Rødseth coped with the feedback in a good way.

– They are right and can do this here. You just have to take the feedback to heart, even if you had obviously hoped for better. There were many emotions tonight, comments the dancer.

Rødseth received a total of 17 points from the judges. Trine Dehli Cleve gave six points, Morten Hegseth five points and Merethe Lingjærde six points. 17 points was the judges’ second lowest score on Saturday.

But even though the judges were harsh with Rødseth, the audience was generous with their votes. Christer Rødseth missed the duel and is on to the next dance.

– Criticism from the judges is fuel on the fire. Now I have even more motivation to drive for another week, he said on the live broadcast when it became clear that he will also be dancing next Saturday.
