New York.- The International Emmy Awards they withdrew the award that they gave to the then governor of New York last year, Andrew Cuomo, for the accusations of sexual harassment poured out against him and forced him to resign from his position.
These accusations were supported by a report written by the New York Attorney General’s Office, which intensified the scrutiny to which he was already subjected to being investigated for a motion of no confidence in the state Assembly.
“The International Academy announced today that, in light of the New York attorney general’s report and the subsequent resignation of Andrew Cuomo as governor, it will rescind its 2020 International Emmy Award,” the organization said in a brief statement stating that Cuomo’s name and all references to the award will be removed.
The organization decided to award Cuomo the International Founders Award last year for his daily appearances on the small screen during the worst moments of the pandemic, in which he reported on the progress of the disease and health measures while sharing anecdotes, likes and hobbies.
“Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York will receive this year’s International Emmy Founders Award, in recognition of his leadership during the Covid-19 pandemic and his masterful use of television to inform and calm people around the world.” , assured the organization of the television awards in a statement last November.
According to the president of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Bruce Paisner, Cuomo “created a television show with characters, plots and success and failure stories” and stressed that his phrase “New York tough (New York is hard) “became” a symbol of determination to fight “against the virus.
But since then, Cuomo has been haunted by scandal after scandal. In addition to a dozen accusations of sexual harassment of former workers, their management of nursing homes during the days when New York was the global epicenter of Covid-19 has been called into question.
Likewise, his fellow ranks began to criticize his alleged intractable character and the hostile environment he created in his work circle and also began an investigation into a book he published about his administration in the pandemic, for allegedly using human resources from the government to write the work, for which he received a millionaire contract.
The Emmys announcement comes a day after Cuomo officially left office and the same day his former “number two” Kathy Hochul took office as governor.
Yesterday, Cuomo said goodbye to New Yorkers with a speech in which he blamed New York Attorney General Letitia James, politicians and the press for his fall from grace.
“When the government politicizes the accusations and the headlines condemn without facts, the judicial system is undermined, and that does not serve women, nor men, nor society,” she said.
