Parents who want to prepare their children for the way to school recommend the traffic watch:
– Find the safest route to school. It’s not always the shortest route, but it is definitely the best.
– Go to school together several times, preferably on a weekday at the exact time the child is about to go to school.
– Discuss the sources of danger on the way in detail and explain to your child that they are only allowed to cross the street in secured areas, i.e. at traffic lights or zebra crossings. Practice with him how it behaves correctly in these places.
– Role reversal: Let your child guide you to school. It should explain to you what it sees and what it therefore wants to do.
– Accompany your child on the way to school at the beginning and also check later whether your child is using the recommended route.
– If your child takes the school bus or public transport, practice the correct behavior here too – at the bus stop, when getting on and off and on the bus.
Please remember: Parents, grandparents, siblings – you are all role models for our youngest road users. Set a good example.
The following applies to all other road users: be considerate! Watch out for children who are now back in traffic more often. Reduce your speed and always be ready to brake!
