The city of Emmen is setting aside nearly 2 million euros to build the new community center in the Angelslo area of Emmen. The current building is expected to be demolished before the construction holidays end, to make way for the new construction.
The new community center will be located on the site of the current centre, on Statenweg in Emmen. There will be a brand new building for the Angelslo Community Center Foundation. In addition, there will also be a branch of Aldi supermarket in the building, on the ground floor. The new building is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
According to the town, the new community center is not an unnecessary luxury. The current community center is very old fashioned and has high energy costs, said councilor René van der Weide previously. So Angelslo expressed his desire for a new construction years ago.
Angelslo Community Center Foundation Chair, Jan de Boer, said: “We are very pleased that the time has almost come as we could no longer cope with the old building. Not only because of late maintenance and heating costs, but also because of the layout. “We’re dealing with a lot of empty space here.” In the new building to be built, the foundation will shrink from 2,600 square meters to 1,700 square meters. “And that’s fine with us.”
Regarding construction costs, the city of Emmen is now contributing more than 1.9 million, especially for its completion. It was previously agreed that Aldi supermarket would bear the costs for the preparation and construction of shells. The foundation has also taken out a loan of 850,000 euros for the project, reports De Boer.
The plan is to demolish the old community center before the construction holidays, so that the new construction can start after the summer holidays. “This should make it possible to put our new center into use at the end of next year.” A procedure is currently underway following a complaint from the community. “We expect to figure it out,” the chairman thinks.
At the end of February it was announced that the Angelslo community center will temporarily occupy the Kop van Zuid business building near the Scheper Hospital during the demolition and construction. The foundation has already moved. “An excellent temporary solution,” said the chairman. “We are happy that this space was available, although we cannot do everything there. Activities such as gym and youth activities take place elsewhere at this time. “
The rental costs for the space in the business center, more than 381,000 euros, will be borne by the city of Emmen. The town receives this money from a so-called disaster fund.
The Kop van Zuid is located on the Boermarkeweg, between the Scheper Hospital and the old site of the Aquarena swimming pool. The building is used, among other things, as office space, a care hotel and a health center by various parties.
