At Emmaüs, we not only sell objects, we can also lend money. This is the role of SOS Familles Emmaüs Pays de Vannes, which signed a partnership on Thursday with the CMB, Crédit Mutuel de Bretagne. SOS Familles is at the origin of the first social microcredit, in the form of a financial advance repayable without fees or interest.
Supported by Emmaüs, the association has existed since 2016 in Vannes, thanks to five volunteers, who receive interviews with people of modest means, sent by social services. They offer themselves as intermediaries between families and creditors. But their resources being limited, the loans amount to a maximum of €2,000, over a period of 2 years, “which did not allow people to acquire a vehicle to go to work, for example,” explains Catherine Bobillot, president.
Today, Crédit Mutuel Arkéa offers collaboration with a microcredit ranging from €300 to €8,000, repayable over 84 months. The reimbursement rate is indexed to the A booklet and there are no processing fees. Ronan Marrec, responsible for running the CMB system, specifies that “85% of these loans finance mobility and 20% training, household appliances or funerals”.
